Main Program

Our August program is intended to give you some new creative tools and some unique ways of thinking about your images. One of the most popular imaging tools today is the NIK Filter Series. After you see this program you’ll be very tempted to get one of them for yourself, unless you already have their whole toolbox. Even if you already use them, our speaker Cliff Lawson will show you some new and unique tricks on how to get the most from your color or monochrome images. Cliff is an award winning professional sports and people photographer, and he’ll bring us an interesting perspective on today’s photography, not to mention his great sense of humor that you’ll enjoy. Mark your calendar for the 24th, and bring a friend with you.

Exhibition

This month’s exhibition is for “digital slides” (projected images) only. E-mail up to 3 of your best images for projection to:

fluhman3@comcast.net

by end of the day Sunday, August 22. We encourage you to send at least one of your images as a “before and after” pair to show us your technique. Pairs count as one entry. Please refer to the Image Projection page for more details. You can always navigate to this page with navigation menu Meetings | Image Projection.

I would like to repeat the workshop experience again. The objective is to learn about how to process digital images and have fun whilst doing so. The format will be as follows:

  1. Date: Saturday, August 7th, 11.00am
  2. Bring along your laptop, with Photoshop or Lightroom installed.
  3. Bring along your images, either on hard-drive, CD/DVD or CF cards.
  4. We will ingest the images into Lightroom or Photoshop or both.
  5. We will process the image in either of these tools.
  6. Expect to spend about some 2-4 hours here. Maybe longer?

I will provide some liquid refreshment and light nourishment. Due to limited space, I will only be able to host a maximum of 4 people.

We could do a photo shoot close by (not more than 2-3 miles from here). However, we did not do this on the previous two occasions. Yeah, I know the light is bad and the weather is hot. Shooting in open shade is always an option. So, if you are interested, then bring your gear if you would be interested. Our home is in downtown Englewood.

If you are interested, please respond by replying to this post on the club’s web site — I will be notified accordingly.  Click the Leave a Comment or Add Comments link for this this post. I can then contact you by email or phone.

This year is Scott Kelby’s Third Annual Photowalk. I took part in this event last year and had a great time. Russ Burden, who will be giving this month’s presentation, was our team leader. He did an excellent job in scouting the locations and leading the event for all participants. There were several photowalks in the Denver area.

This is a great event to get out and make images during the summer. You will get to meet a lot of new people. You may be able to help other participants. And you may learn something new too!

Follow this link to find more information on Photowalk locations in Denver. You may also join one of the photowalks at this site. As of writing this post, there are three events in the Denver area:

For the more adventurous, you can register as a photowalk leader.

Prizes are also awarded for this event. Here are last year’s winning images. You may view the images that were submitted in the 2009 Downtown Denver Worldwide Photowalk that were posted to the Flickr website.
