I’m half way through The Hot Shoe Diaries by Joe McNally and I love it. Joe gives a balanced description, both of the background of the images, and the technical details. His text is sometimes a bit flippant but not to the point of detracting from the book. His technical information is very detailed and those of you who shoot Nikon will feel right at home; I had to mentally translate the Nikon descriptions to my best guess at Canon’s equivalents. And, his photos are outstanding! The publishing is nicely done as well.
